Due to paucity of time, nowadays, some women prefer formula feeding for their baby. But, before taking this hard decision, it is good to know the benefits and importance of breastfeeding.

Benefits of Breastfeeding

  • There are two important reasons why breastfeeding should be preferred. One is the health aspect and other is psychological bond between child and mother. There is no substitute available for mothers milk and breastfeeding offers more nutritional benefit to the child.
  • Breastfeeding reduces the risk of childhood cancers, diabetes, gastrointestinal infections, respiratory infections, ear infections, and obesity for the child.
  • Also, breastfeeding mother can reduce the occurrence of ovarian and breast cancers, hip fracture and osteoporosis.
  • Breastmilk is always fresh and available all the time. Moreover, breastmilk is easily digestible.
  • It is also proven that breast feeding reduces the sudden unexpected death in infants.
  • Breastfeeding is also one of the excellent methods to lose weight gained during pregnancy.
  • Doctors recommend breastfeeding for at least six months after child birth. Babies get their fluid requirement through breastmilk itself and they do not need water or any other food until their six months.
  • It is a well-known factor that breastfeeding increases immunity and antibody protection in babies.
  • Breastmilk increases intelligence in the baby and it contributes much in the better brain development.
  • Premature babies do better when they are fed with breastmilk, as the breastmilk contains essential nutrients in the right proportion.
  • Breastfeeding saves lots of money and it does not need any preparation to feed the baby.
  • Physical contact during breastfeeding makes baby more secure, calm, and comfort.
  • Breastfeeding is the best way to protect the child from allergies, infections, and illnesses.
